2. Electric Drive Axle & Powertrain Technology Updates

Sinotruk HOWO 513kWh Electric-Axle Tractor

Sinotruk launched its flagship electric-axle tractor featuring an integrated e-axle combined with under-floor battery architecture that lowers the center of gravity and balances axle load. The battery does not encroach on cargo space. The vehicle comes standard with a native 360° panoramic view system for long-haul safety applications.

FAW Jiefang Light Central Integrated High-Speed E-Axle (CAR4E060-01)

FAW Jiefang unveiled a compact e-axle solution for light commercial vehicles: rated axle load 4t, self-weight 305 kg, equipped with hydraulic disc brake — a benchmark for the light-CV electrification segment.

JAC EZ6 5-Ton Integrated Parallel-Shaft E-Axle (Launched Aug 7)

The JAC EZ6 features Bosch's 2nd-generation flat-wire motor paired with the industry's first 450 N·m 5-ton integrated parallel-shaft e-axle. This product reconfirms the CV powertrain consolidation trend as the new standard for next-generation commercial vehicles.

ZF AxTrax 2 Mass-Produced in Jiaxing — First Foreign Tier-1 E-Axle Made in China

ZF officially began mass production of its fully integrated coaxial e-axle AxTrax 2 at its Jiaxing plant in July 2026. This marks the first time a foreign Tier-1 supplier has mass-produced a new-generation heavy-truck e-axle in China, competing directly with domestic players such as HANDB, Fangsheng, and BYD's self-developed systems.

Jichi Group — Four-Speed High-Power Commercial E-Axle Unveiled

China's Norinco Group announced the successful development and commissioning of a four-speed high-power commercial e-axle, filling the enterprise's product gap in heavy-duty electric drivetrains and targeting mining, heavy-load logistics, and long-haul applications.

Geely Leishen 16-in-1 Ultra-Integrated Smart E-Drive Launched

Geely and StarDrive jointly launched the world's first Leishen 16-in-1 ultra-integrated smart e-drive, consolidating 16 core functions including motor, electronic controls, and reducer. The system achieves 93.8% efficiency (CLTC), weighs only 75 kg, and is built on an 800V platform. This marks e-drive axles officially entering the ultra-integration era.

3. Axle Lightweighting: Policy-Driven Acceleration

GB 36980.1 Mandatory EV Energy-Consumption Standard (Effective January 2026)

China's mandatory EV energy-consumption standard GB 36980.1, effective January 2026, introduces tiered kWh/100km limits by curb weight — overweight models risk failing vehicle homologation. Achieving a 10% weight reduction delivers a 5–8% range gain and saves 0.3–0.4 kWh/100km, making lightweighting the most cost-effective compliance path.

The policy is accelerating "aluminum-for-aluminum" adoption. As a leading example, Hongqiao/Guoke Light Metal's NEV heavy-truck battery PACK has achieved 28% lightweighting through advanced aluminum composite materials.

Trade Barriers: U.S. Slaps 130%+ Anti-Dumping Duty on Chinese Trailers

On August 3, CIMC Vehicles announced a preliminary ruling in the U.S. anti-dumping and countervailing duty investigation on box semi-trailers: a countervailing duty rate of 82.37% and anti-dumping duty of 130.76% on its Qingdao subsidiary. Leading domestic manufacturers including CIMC are accelerating capacity upgrades at U.S. plants and pivoting to Southeast Asia, Africa, and Latin America for diversified market layouts.

4. Geopolitical Tailwind: Iran Conflict Drives Asia E-Truck Demand

The Iran conflict (escalated February 28, 2026) has closed the Strait of Hormuz, sharply raising diesel prices across Asia: +48% in Sri Lanka, +57% in the Philippines. In the four months following the conflict onset, China's exports of heavy electric trucks more than doubled year-on-year to 16,823 units, with South and Southeast Asia accounting for roughly half of shipments. South Asian imports surged more than 5x, Southeast Asian nearly 3x. With diesel prices elevated, the payback period for electric heavy trucks has shortened from 28 months to 18 months. Sany shipped its largest single order of 880 heavy trucks in June 2026, with the Asia, Africa, and Latin America markets as key growth engines.
